Hickory’s Market Lane in South Melbourne is lauded as the new ‘non-office’ for its dynamic and visionary human-centric design. It has reimagined the traditional office space as the workplace of the future—and remodelled one typically overlooked amenity into something remarkable along the way.

Award-winning architects, Elenberg Fraser had a vision for a ceiling-mounted outlet in the landmark commercial project’s Wellness Centre. Hickory tasked Harvey Norman Commercial Victoria to find an innovative, elegant yet simple solution—one that would work with the planned custom circular, floor-mounted vessel basin with no visible mixers for dispensing water.

Gentec combined cutting-edge touchless technology with their flexibility for customisation to fit Market Lane’s architectural intent perfectly. It proved a winning combination indeed.

It features a laminar cache aerator that sits flush with the bottom of the tap, creating an elegant profile and a crystal-clear water stream. State-of-the-art laser sensor technology allows water to descend from the ceiling with just a wave—no tap or mixer required.

“We knew that laser technology would fit perfectly into the scope,” explains Steve Pensen, Gentec Innovations and Production Manager.

Both aerator and sensor end had to fit flush, so Gentec crafted a one-of-a-kind housing and mounting flange for the project.

“The brief from the client was straightforward; the challenge was to materialise the requirements with space and time constraints,” adds Sandro Pedone, Gentec Australia’s Development Engineer.

Gentec also custom-manufactured the spout to match the project’s signature Heritage Brass tapware finish, ensuring the bespoke piece effortlessly matched the overall  architectural design.

The final result combines functionality and aesthetics with the kind of experiential design that transforms the ordinary into the extraordinary.
